Baaaaaaaaaaaaaacck from OBS!

Red, a bit burnt, sore and tired... bleah i am old liao..

OBS was prety rewarding wif 10 20~22yr old guys and 4 19yr old gals, all from the Home Tm second tier scholarships (coughnoelitenonsensecough). We had the basic team building stuff, a Sea Ex and a Height Challenge. Team building stuff was fun coz i took the chance to stay low and observe people's behaviour but surprisingly no particularly grating ones emerged. Sea Ex was tiring but i am glad my body could stilll haul some serious muscle thru 7hrs without much rest lol... Height Challenge was quite a challenge for me as my childhood fear of heights came back to haunt me somewhat. Its not really those irrational fear that kind but i dun particularly like climbing end over end 6~7 storeys up in mid air over unstable stuff.. haha think i really annoyed my belayer by my constant nagging. haha though i apologised to her after i touched earth again. But then again, no one really believed i was afraid lol...

For this OBS i guess it was pretty rewarding. I was quite skeptical of it as i had seen lousy camps and lousy teams wif lousy people but these people work pretty well together and there wasnt much ice to split despite the differences and some sharing similarities. There was fun and laughter and pretty much the camp passed in a light hearted mood. which was good.

After a hilarious dinner wif these folks, i rushed down to Suntec to watch Superman wif my vball crew at Cathay. My my Cathay was totally REVAMPED and its very nice. Guys just wait for all the shops to fully opened and it will be a pretty classy place to bring ur gals out to for a sunday afternoon. However Superman Returns was BORING. Yes nice visuals and all but the plot kinda let it down. My verdict: dun watch it at the cinema. In fact just watch it if u had time to kill. I so much prefer Batman returns lor. Now that is a good Return movie lol...

People say i have changed some what. I guess so. Is it for good or bad? Hard to say though...

Time to sleep now..

Ahh... a guy will always be a guy i guess, esp wif the genetic heritage i have. Quite out of point, but its nice to see Singaporean gals after a 4 mth break. LoL i sound like a desperate Army boy stuck in camp for eons but lol i AM NOT THAT desperate lar.

Some basic observations:
1. They arent that good looking usually, usually middling in the road.
2. However most of them know how to dress and make up to a certain extent.
3. Hence the end result is an air of how to say? artificiality? as opposed to naturalness. (not necessarily because of makeup and posh clothes.. but the air is there.)

I came to this rather belated realisation coz of subconsicous comparison of them wif the malaysian gals i know.(i am not saying malaysian gals are better etc or anything like that. Just that they dun exude this air abt them) I guess although artificiality certainly does up the look factor, but its quite an "nee" feeling that detracts it from the long run. I mean, gazing on a beautifully made up facade i cant but wonder whats really under the clothes and the makeup, much less whats behind the eyes and in her heart right? haha but really this is a OUT OF POINT post haha...

My frens had been complaining to me about some of my female frens evangelism. Hahah, i have my own views and i dun like being a pushy salesman so lets leave it at that k? Getting into a debate regarding this will only result in wounds in either sides anyway...

Kk 3day OBS here i come.. reluctantly lol.. i wanna slack and rot!!!

Ok some catchup is needed...

My exams ended on 20 after the dreaded scigen paper. Biosci 101 was a struggle against time as there was only a day's grace before it and i spent most of time crash corusing judy thru it. almost lost my voice that day but after the massive tuition session i piaed it until 2 plus in the morning.. it feels ok.. but well. For scigen none of us cld really finish the material and nobody felt like studying for it anymore being the last paper and a so called not impt paper, so desperate i got suren and weechin and together we spotted qns for it. By God's grace all the stuff we spotted came out which was really pretty crazy. lol i think i might have a gift at spotting qns lol.. but even spotting the qns successfully we are not confident of doing well as we need to run the gauntlet of Manea's marking.

after that, i basically spent a day or two doing some much needed rotting and slacking haha before getting down to packing and getting ready to fly. I guess for myself i dun really feel all that enthusiastic at flying coz it was a really last min thing i dun have the ooh i AM GOING HOME excitement. In fact i felt a bit of PBD (Pre book in depression lol) as i guess to me it felt like a long book in. But nearing touchdown i was anxious to be off the plane and wif my family and frens. so i guess after i commit to a course of action i seldom look back lar. haha

soooo tired now after a day of beach vball where my frens and i dominated the beach court yet again. Although not playing at best i am pretty happy that i can still play decently. But my frens first thing say i turned flabby!! boohoohoo and asked me why my back got soo many little red spots.. coz i think i got heat rash. sian ji bua.

so my goal for these 3 weeks. GET BACK INTO MY SHAPE AND GET RID OF THE STUPID RED SPOTS!!

Right now after leading in the first 2 quarters of the Daniel Seah Championship Playoffs Game 1, Team Daniel faces a third quarter against Biosci 101. After a good first half where there was plenty of time and rest for them, now the game goes into overdrive with fast paced nonstop action from the Opposition.

Can Team Daniel secure a third quarter successfully? He must or coz his final quarter is very tough and he needs all the points he can get before SCIGEN 201 takes him on a 30-2 scoring streak.

This is the evidence of a guy who has converted from soccer to bball. No World Cup for me, YES NBA FINALS for me! haha..

This exam period has been trying on me for all the wrong reasons. Academics wise I should perform as usual provided no major unforeseen things happen.. but given the ups and downs and twists and turns of this week.. i am not so sure anymore.

Been teaching my frens, and monitoring some people as i study myself. Havent touched the computer for leisure or caught the World Cup fever coz i had my hands to full to figure otherwise. On Monday there was a Auckland city blackout which lasted 4hrs.. all shops closed and on top of that it rained like it was the last day of the world. As a result, the exams for that day were pushed all the way to the end. This caused an uproar as lots of people have booked their tickets to fly home right after their last papers which for most are this sat.

And to top it all off.. i received an email and confirmation that i am indeed flying back this break for my vacation attachment program. Basically it was a note telling me that some money was on the way and i was expected back. I guess i shld be more grateful and joyful but the first reaction was... waliaoz.. why so last min? my exams are thurs sat and mon, how can i find time to go check book settle and prepare to fly??

right now my brain and emotions are in a whirl... time to reexert some iron control i desperately need not to falter at the gates.

Then perhaps, sometimes, what you love is different from what you do best isn't it? Your occupation may not be your talent or your hobby. Your wife might not be the one you loved most passionately in your life. For those whose loves and talents match what they actually do, these people become Olympic champions, they become leaders in their fields, and they become the stuff of fairy tales.

hmm leaves much room for tot doesnt it?

This is one of those days.. where on one hand, everything seems to be rolling along fine but some things cast a pall over it. where sometimes u feel acutely that something is missing or incomplete.

Had been studying day in day out for Biosci 107 mainly and recently had been teaching or helping some of my classmates along. Well on one hand i feel obliged and really dun mind helping my classmates along (if u call explaining entire chapters and exam questions helping =P), it can be quite deceptive into lulling me into a false sense of confidence (people spreading rumours that i am smart and hardworking DUN Help at all too haha).

Also it makes me feel sorta nolstagic. Here i am teaching people the fundamentals of certain topics like 2 days b4 the papers... and i cant help but compare it to the Singaporean environment where people will be furiously go over past year papers and arguing certain vague concepts or answers instead of STARTing to learn the fundamentals. Where i will be struggling to argue weird high end stuff wif my compatriots, instead of last min tutoring... ah well..

Just got back my second scigen assignment. LOL i dunno whether to be amused or disturbed that i just passed. Well on one hand, i had taken a rather large risk by arguing my case controversially (hehe somehow i like to take risks in academia and mebbe life in general haha), On the other hand, it was marked by the notoriously strict marker (who tick tick tick and gimme such marks without explanation!) So i dunno its because i screwed up coz of my controversial arguments or if Manea just didnt like my essay.. ah the kick of artsy stuff.. u never know when you are gonna step on a landmine.

So far i think my Biosci 107, 101 are on course and gonna be fine and my math is gonna need some intensive work b4 i can say anything. Scigen well, lets just say i had a rude awakening today and its time to start paying attention to this topic i tot easy.

Also just received an email from my sponsors. They sent out a list of fellow bondees who will be attending the functions in june and july and well my name aint on it. So this means i can assume 99% that i will be in NZ for this winter vacation. On one hand I had expected it, but then it still sucks hard when it comes in. Well truth to speak the major thing looming on my mind now is how to not mess up my exams rather than vacations and returns trips though...

Being in the exam period, been also doing little things here and there to help fellow students get along and well helping others (wif the tiny little things that actually dun really count as much) but well makes me a tad homesick. Ah, where have the days when studying hard at home meant snacks and drinks by mum were always on hand, where irritating brothers are around to disturb and the father's computer always hijacked by me whenever he gets off his chair.

Hmm 21 year olds arent meant to be soft and misty eyed and mushy, esp a 21 yr old with lots of ex-something in his history.. but well sometimes its a privilage not to be soo tough after all...

1st June is here already... and we had formal dinner again!? bahz.. actually i really felt like skipping it but i was dragged down to dinner. Ah well at least the food was better and everyone was nicely dressed up and made up. BUT can that compensate having to be squeezed into a tiny dining hall, listening to crappy muffled speeches, no freedom to eat and drink and refill as i please and of coz, the discomfort of having to eat carefully in formal clothes...(AFTER going thru the trouble of selecting and preparing them! yikes!)

but hehe at least there were good foto opportunities... enjoy! and some crappy crazy poses and stunts muhaha..

The aunties club =P

The guys: Ying leong, Wee chin, Suren and Amin

Group shot of my table. hmm...

Me and the gals near me... DUN EVEN THINK abt it!

Massive Group Shot!

Weechin and his 6 wives... Wei Xiaobao descendant!

Suren and his girlfriends.. hmm wait.. how come all the gals all the same one!

Kazu and his... oh nvm.. what to do.. lack of girls.. and even scarcer number of GUYS!

Lao Ah pek and his China, Batam and Thailand mail order brides! haha thats Zhengjie btw..

My neighbour the Vietnamese Ken.... playing at 007 wif my toy gun lol

Charlie's Angels? does it mean i am Charlie? muhaha

SOMEONE SNAPPED THIS WITHOUT MY CONSENT! But i like it coz i dunno... i think i look like papa... haha papa dun u think so?

ah well anyway as the photos tend to show, the pool of asians in o rorke is really freaking small.. and the worse thing is the girls outnumber the guys by 2:1 or more. Talk about population bottlenecks and lack of variety haha...

Haiz.. a few days more to exams... kinda hard to rev the motor fully and fully focus. So far my academic work has been fine.. just not perfect lol... and to think that next sem i have to deal wif a harder workload AND start joining UNI CCAs (command of my sponsors) and apply for exchange programs... what can i say.. a thousand things on my mind.

Hmm first things first. I must feel the sense of urgency and doom, bahz.. dun feel the stress at all.. this is bad.. oh well.. perhaps after this weekend i will panic haha see ya all..
